Worthwhile Sacrifice

In Matthew 9:35 Jesus calls His disciples and says, "If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all."

It is not in our nature, as human beings, to be servants but that is the challenge Christians are faced with by Jesus.  I grew up in church, feeding my own self-interest more times than not, never truly understanding the words repeatedly spoken by Jesus throughout the New Testament.  It was not until a few years ago that they started sinking in and resonating in my own spirit.

As a young wife, my conception of sacrifice was quickly changing and evolving.  My reality mirrored Jesus' calling by force, not by desire.  But in the instant I became a mother, my entire perception of God altered.  My understanding of love was now much deeper which made my understanding of Jesus' life and sacrifice on the cross more meaningful.  Although it was difficult at first, I slowly began the transformation from a selfish girl to a servant-hearted woman.  This transformation is on-going, and I am no where near the woman God desires.  I hope as I write, you will keep that in mind and remember that I am just writing based on where I have been and what I have learned along the way.

I have been encouraged to write this blog by many well-meaning friends, so I am trying to mentally prepare myself to keep a schedule so that my momentum does not dwindle.  I am hopeful to work up to writing more than once a week, I would like to write three times a week, but for now I am shooting for once a week.  My topics will vary but will all fall under the umbrella of topics, lifestyles or habits that I have found to be a worthwhile sacrifice.  There will be times you disagree, sometimes wildly, and I understand that.  My prayer will be that my own thoughts ignite change in my followers' lives, making you wonder how you could better serve God, your family, your community and the world.
